How do you know if you or a loved one is suffering from hearing loss?
There is a saying that goes, the best way to make a hearing loss obvious is to
do nothing about it. Here are some behaviors common to hard of hearing
individuals:
-
Listening to TV or radio at very high volume levels
-
Frequent, inappropriate conversational responses
-
Domination of discussions
-
Avoidance of discussions
-
Difficulty using telephones
-
Complaints that others mumble
-
Frequent requests for repetition of phrases
-
Denial of hearing loss and an unwillingness to have a hearing assessment
Often loved ones are the first to notice the hearing loss. Because the
progression of the hearing loss is so gradual, the subtle changes in hearing
sensitivity often go unnoticed by the hearing impaired person. Some
people, who are hard of hearing, blame their inability to understand speech on
external factors such as, things being too noisy or that people just mumble and
don't speak clearly. While this might contribute to the problem, it is
usually not the cause of it.
A hearing test can be performed by one of our hearing aid specialists, or your
doctor, that will show whether or not there is a hearing loss. This
process will take from about 25-45 minutes. Once the testing is
completed, we will go over the results of the hearing test with you. We
will make recommendations and explain different options but the decision is up
to you. We are here to answer your questions and serve your hearing
needs. Our goal is to help improve your quality of life through the gift
of hearing health.
If you suspect that you or a loved one may have a hearing impairment, we would
be more than happy to perform a hearing screening at no charge to determine if
there is need for a full hearing evaluation.
